1. Missme: The Artful Vandal

Missme: The Artful Vandal

A short profile doc on street artist MissMe—a sort of Banksy-esque underground figure with a feminist bent. While the short portrait documentary field is certainly overcrowded, director Mohammad Gorjestani’s film is beautifully shot and quickly paced. It’s got a certain energy that can’t be denied . Plus, the central character is an inspiring symbol of artistic authenticity and self-liberation. A former advertising executive, MissMe ditched her high-profile corporate day job to become a counter-voice to the objectification of women in the mainstream advertising world. Girl power, indeed.

16. Let My People Go

Let My People Go

Let My People Go is a modern-day deliverance story rooted in biblical themes and archetypes. But instead of examining the bondage of the children of Israel by Pharaoh, the film focuses on the bondage of the American people. "Pharaoh" is replaced by a wholly infiltrated and weaponized U.S. government directly and indirectly influenced by Chinese Communist Party and Marxist forces. The film presents two overlapping narratives of America's enslavement. The first form of slavery is achieved using proprietary "black boxes" and software, where swamp candidates are selected rather than elected. Massive ballot harvesting operations provide the paper trail to cover up the greatest crime in our nation's history - the removal of President Donald J. Trump. The second form of slavery focuses on the real-=life consequences of the Americans who gathered and protested the theft of their votes on November 3rd - the January Sixers - that now languish in prison.

20. A Fight for (Boj za)

A Fight for

A month after the Wall Street occupation, a number of protesters follow their example and set up their tents in front of the Ljubljana stock market. The protesters are united in the critique of representative democracy and global financial capitalism under the slogan ‘nobody represents us’. Their organisation is based on the principles of direct democracy. In absence of other social alternatives, a community starts to emerge in the camp in front of the stock market where everyone has an equal say, and everyone is united in their diversity. After the initial euphoria the great idea of direct democracy clashes against the contemporary individual; antagonisms surface, similar to those of the system which the protesters fight against. The story about the Slovenian version of the ‘occupy’ movement is portrayed with the stories of a few protagonists, who despite several defeats do not lose hope in a different world.

It has an average vote of 7.2 on TMDB.
